Knowing "Who am I" and Watching the Me; Detachment.

Before we can firmly acknowledge the "me" and live it, to avoid too serious a life full of disappointment, suffering, old age and death, then we need to seek out and understand "Who am I?"

We find that the "I" is the Eternal watcher, pure, unalloyed consciousness, the One same unified awareness behind all the variety and diversity. From this perspective we can learn to live the life of the person, the "me", but with detachment, by watching.

This is what the Swamis and Enlightened beings mean when they say "Knowing doesn't change."

It can be very useful to the art of watching to get into the habit of thinking about the person that you are as "the me". What is "the me" feeling at the moment? What is "the me" doing/thinking? This avoids all confusion with the "I" which is the silent watcher, the "I" is the omnipotent awareness, God. "oh, the me is living. Oh, the me is dieing."

The wave is not the ocean, but the ocean is all the waves. In the same manner, "the me" is but a drop in the ocean of Infinity - the "I".

Thus, "me is a bookseller" is spiritually correct, whereas "I am a bookseller" - although grammatically correct - is spiritually incorrect! How could the infinite "I" be limited to only one role.

Thus "me is" is a tremendously humbling expression of spiritual understanding. It allows us to get into the part that the "me" is playing and always maintain correct relationship with the "I am", which is of course reference to the eternal and infinite in life - God.

Just a drop in the ocean.
