Comment With respect to the original photograph, there are some artifacts introduced by removing the background: the tail shows a double contour, what seems a casting defects has been removed from the right-hand leg, and three cusps are present below the neck. I added three notes about them. --Harlock81 (talk) 13:30, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Ah, sod it - yes, I support. I was going to oppose it when I saw the thumbnail, as I thought of it as "just another windmill", but after looking at the full size, I think the technical quality is very high and the light is just right for the composition.--Peulle (talk) 10:33, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose OK, I'm going to go ahead and FPX this one, but as you're a new nominator, I'll give you some tips. 1) Feature Pictures are among the very best that exist on Commons, a tiny percentage of the millions of pictures on the site. In order to make it, the image either has to show something truly significant, like a famous person or event, or be of exceptional technical quality - sometimes both. Only nominate your very best images for this category. 2) It may be a good idea to first get some feedback over at QIC. As you can see from the process there, this image is not likely to succeed even there; the points of the low resolution and quality being mentioned. If an image succeeds in becoming a QI, then perhaps consider nominating it for FP. Best of luck. --Peulle (talk) 10:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for nominating this image. Unfortunately, it does not fall within the Guidelines and is unlikely to succeed for the following reason: the quality is too low to have a chance of reaching FP status.--Peulle (talk) 10:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone other than the nominator who disagrees may override this template by changing {{FPX}} to {{FPX contested}} and adding a vote in support. Voting will then continue in the usual way. If not contested within 24 hours, this nomination may be closed.
Comment Thanks for your feedback! I've uploaded a new version with corrected perspective (you may need to use SHIFT+Reload to see the changes), not much I can do about the sharpness. --Kabelleger (talk) 10:57, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Info Zernez, decoration on the vaults of the Reformed Church San Mauritius. The church can first be seen at the end of the 13th century. @Yann, Thank you so much for having done it by yourself. In the last two weeks I switched to Mac from Windows and I'm also developing also a little web site, so I was mentally occupied with those and other things. ;D LucaLindholm (talk) 18:03, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support If it were better developed this image would really be a gem, but due to the size of the JPG and evaluating what the RAW would be like, this photo should have greater potential. --Wilfredor (talk) 21:50, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I understand well, Wilfredor is not very happy that the image wheighs "only" 16.11 MB and is saying that I should have uploaded a version that weighs more MB. It is true that I uploaded a version that was compressed with Photoshop to a quality of 11 out of 12. But I strongly disagree with his statement for many reasons :
1) The rules don't forbid small jpg compression (they only forbid strong compression). Actually the rules even recommend using a jpg compression of minimum 80 or 90% and this is what was done here with a 92% compression ;
2) A compression of 11 out of 12 has a result of pratically no difference compared to a 12/12 quality export. Even zooming at 200% and comparing pixel by pixel I never saw any difference between the two with the naked eye ;
3) Usually I only do the 11/12 instead of letting the 12/12 when the image size is above 20 MB. Excessive file sizes are bad for many reasons ;
9) If there was a policy of only accepting only loseless uploads we would only be uploading PNG format, which is not the case here and is on the contrary to be avoided.
I'm not saying that this is the case and also every photographer should be free to edit their photos as they see fit, and we enter a grey area where it can be a decision of the photographer or a technical error according to some. Destructive editing does not only involve compression of JPGs, but also very strong noise reduction or sharpness filters, or saturation or color changes that were not real (except for black and white images or specific cases). I come from Venezuela, a country with very limited internet access where almost no one can see our work even with the highest compressions, but should we limit ourselves in an attempt to be inclusive?, This is just a image, imagine all the bandwidth that is spent on watching streaming videos, which is becoming more common every day. IMHO As a general rule, I always suggest uploading the best possible version of your work, because the quality in which you share it today will be how it’s remembered tomorrow. If someone prefers a smaller version, there are several size options available on the image description page, but that should not be your limitation when creating. Don’t set up barriers that others can easily overcome. Show your art in all its splendor and detail. You might think now that it’s enough to upload an optimized or more modest version, but I assure you, over time, you’ll regret it. Technology and quality standards advance quickly. The best way to contribute your work to humanity is by sharing it in the highest quality possible. In the end, it’s a matter of respecting your own creation and those who will enjoy it Wilfredor (talk) 22:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support Good lighting and composition. The leading (meandering) line of the path towards the steep hill in the background adds invokes, to me at least, a parallel to the myth of Sisyphus. A compelling image --Needsmoreritalin (talk) 16:02, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral The composition is very nice, but I agree with XRay about the level of detail and the resolution is rather small in this day and age. BigDom (talk) 05:29, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Info View of the Alcázar of Segovia during sunrise, Segovia, Castile and León, Spain. The UNESCO World Heritage Site dates from the 12th century and has been home to twenty-two kings. The Alcazar of Segovia has made its mark on cinema and popular culture. It was used by Orson Welles in the film "Chimes at Midnight" and served as inspiration for Cinderella castle in the Walt Disney movie and also in the Disneyworld sites. It's one of the most renowed medieval castles in the world and one of the most visited landmarks in Spain. c/u/n by me, Poco a poco (talk) 12:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Info The Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, located in Ravenna, is truly a jewel surrounded by greenery. Internally, the mosaic of the apse also depicts Sant'Apollinare in a lush green lawn, surrounded by trees, flowers and animals, creating an atmosphere of peace and serenity. This scenario symbolizes heaven and eternal life, making the basilica a place of great beauty and spirituality. All by Terragio67 -- Terragio67 (talk) 22:19, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support I find both versions attractive, but I personally like this one better. The group of sculptures on the left adds to the overall appeal of the scene. -- Radomianin (talk) 06:29, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, you are right. I decided to upload a new version in order to preserve the full scenery. I will correlate the two images as other version. I also really like this image, but I decided to opt for the alternative image because the depiction being too broad becomes difficult to interpret and perhaps even distracting. Terragio67 (talk) 07:54, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Info I decided to crop the left part of the image above to give centrality and the right importance to the basilica immersed in the greenery of nature, trying in the same way to represent an atmosphere of peace and serenity, similar to the internal mosaic of the apse where the tone of the colors resemble each other. This scenario symbolizes paradise and eternal life, making the basilica a place of great beauty and spirituality. Created, 2nd version uploaded, and nominated by Terragio67 -- Terragio67 (talk) 19:36, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Sorry, but several things serve to ruin this one for me: the modern lightbulb in contrast to the older lamp and wall; the difference in the shadow vs. the lamp; the crack in the lamp glass... I'm just not feeling it.--Peulle (talk) 11:57, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support This photo deserves a little love. Yes, at the first glance the lateral view of the façade appears unusual and somewhat irritating. But (a) sometimes a little irritation is good, it shakes us out of our well-meaning lethargy and makes us look closer; (b) the lateral view reveals parts of the domes of the church which are shining in the sunlight; (c) this way we get a beautiful contrast between the shady, bluish piazza and the warm light on the domes. All in all I learn much about the location and the beauty of the church from this photo, much more than from the usual symmetric frontal view, and therefore the photo is IMHO successful and deserves the star. – Aristeas (talk) 10:03, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
