Please see my comment. The request was improperly closed in the first place by ignoring the proper term. Anyways, instead of reopening I now renominated the file. Protection doesn't seem justified. This way anonymous users couldn't renominate either. 90.190.58.159 20:17, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

@Bodhi Peace: The file is not protected, you're just not autoconfirmed. Non-autoconfirmed users cannot upload a new version of an existing file. You may provide the link to the new SVG code you made at the file's talk page, then we will review it. @Bodhi Peace: @Pokéfan95: We really cannot, by policy (and common sense) unprotect pages under cascading protection... the pages added to those lists by the bot are 'highly visible' on other Wikis... usually on their Main Page, and so extremely 'high value' vandalism targets. (the particular image is at about 250 views/day right now). Please upload the 'new' file under a different name, and make an edit request at File_talk:Super_Tuesday_2016.svg for it to be merged on top by an admin (it can't be an actual 'merge', but we can overwrite it). Mercyse has been uploading a variety of images relating (in his eyes) to biorobotics, claiming them as his own work but all of them stolen from other sources. The only ones that weren't apparently copyrighted was File:Neuronal-Networks-Feedback.png (which was still someone else's work). I could not find the source for File:Neuron-artificial-biological.jpg, but given the rest of his activity the only reasonable assumption is that it was stolen from a textbook.

File:Eyes of arachnophobia biorobotics.jpg (stolen from an artist's deviantart page) was uploaded with the claim that the spider is half robot, which [File:Eyes of arachnophobia biorobotics.jpg he tried to argue is OK (even though the spider may not be a "full robotic spider") because the biorobotics article also covers works of fiction.]

TL;DR: user is uploading stolen images as his own work, using them in ways that indicate that he can't tell the difference between science fiction and science fact. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:53, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

The file has been nominated for deletion repeatedly by several IP addresses and the user Modyara. The removal of the request template has been reverted several times, despite the request having been dismissed. I have a weak suspicion that those IP addresses belong to that same user. As I recently mentioned at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Musico cristiano.jpg, Marcoantoniohurtado (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads)  has been repeatedly informed about Commons' project scope. He's also been told to stop making test edits outside of the sandbox. Nevertheless, he continues to upload out-of-scope files and make test/vandalism edits while failing to make any worthwhile contributions whatsoever. The user is already indefinitely blocked at the Mediawiki project. It seems like he's fishing for a block here too. Would someone be so kind as to oblige? Due to a near missed editing conflict (only one or two minutes between the log entries), I opened a deletion request on the first revision of the given file, while another user uploaded a new file version. I defended the DR (with a quality and licensing rationale) using two reverts as, being open, it needs processing by an administrator and should be mentioned on the file page. There's a bit of a colour war going on with File:Bandera de Lima.png (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs), could someone take a look at potential protection and advising contributors please? It's top of User:Fæ/SignificantReverts this week, and is being used in over 300 articles in 39 different projects; so these radical colour changes are unhelpfully unstable. However, Bibiem2010 (talk · contribs), created December 15, 2015 (UTC), was blocked for a period of one week on February 17, 2016 (UTC), for various copyright violations, including the exact same image (not sure if it was File:Junior Ceci.png or another one of the other files with 'Junior' in the title, as there are various on the user talk page). IagoQnsi2: misleading username and likely sockpuppet

Someone (probably User:JellyfishFilms) has created the account User:IagoQnsi2, which is blatantly a copy of my username. This was seemingly created because I started an Articles for Deletion discussion for an article that JellyfishFilms wrote on enwiki. Anyway, it seems pretty apparent that IagoQnsi2 is both an unacceptable username and a near-certain sockpuppet of JellyfishFilms. I already started a sockpuppet investigation and username report on enwiki, but I noticed IagoQnsi2 has made contributions to commons as well, so could an admin please block them here? To be new sockpuppets of the very multiple account creator Rolando Yñigo Genio :

ScolopendraJazz first edit was to modify File:Coat of Arms of Ruiz de Gauna.svg, created by Rolandodeynigo. The new design uploaded is exactly the same as one raster drawing which was added long ago with a watermark on rynigogenio's deviantart. The second was the upload of file:Stemma dei Pazzi.png, just one day after the same drawing was uploaded with a watermark on rynigogenio's deviantart. On the 17th/18th march you have the same pattern with this deviantart upload and file:Stemma dei Medici.png and with file:Stemma dei Yñigo-Genio.png and http://rynigogenio.deviantart.com/art/Arms-of-Ynigo-Genio-597335079. On the 15th of July, this deviantart file is uploaded on rynigogenio's deviantart with a watermark. The next day, the same file File:Escudo de Armas de Anchorena.png is uploaded on commons without the watermark.

This user also reuploaded a file containing many copyvio element of a previously deleted file

As for CondeDeBuenosAires, we have the same pattern as aforesaid with file:Escudo de Armas von Braun.png, uploaded on the 22th august without watermark on commons, the same day as the same drawing is uploaded on rynigogenio's deviantart with a watermark.

This user has been flagged uploading multiple copyvios.

Could an admin inquire ? This person is permanently creating new socks to evade his numerous blocks : Sasasasabor is blocked the 12th of june 2015, one month later, two new accounts are created (CondeDeBuenosAires the 11th july, ScolopendraJazz the 16th)

Ich habe heute viel gelernt über Wikipedia. Vor allem stellt sich die Frage, ob hier mitzumachen überhaupt sinnvoll ist.

Vorausschicken möchte ich, dass meine Vorgehensweise beim Anlegen des User-Accounts keinen offensichtlichen Bestimmungen widersprach. Es gestaltet sich für mich außerdem sehr schwierig, Informationen oder Ansprechpartner zu finden.

Chronologie: 

* Wir haben den Account gemeinschaftlich angelegt, da nirgends Steht, dass das nicht zulässig ist.
* Der Account wurde gesperrt.
* Es war für uns nicht ersichtlich warum. Dann hat der Sperrer dagelegt, dass er den Account sperrte, weil es sich um keine Einzelperson, sondern um eine Gemeinschaft handelt.
* Daraufhin kam unsere "Gemeinschaft" überein, dass wir unsere Verwertungsrechte an Fotos aus diesem Unternehmen gemeinschaftliuch wahrnehmen, da nach fast 40 Jahren nicht mehr erinnerlich ist, welche Person welches Foto angefertigt hat, und die Urheberschaft somit keiner physischen Person mehr zugeordnet werden kann, sondern nur mehr der "Gemeinschaft".
* Sollte trotz der vorangeführten Erklärung ein gemeinsamer Account nicht möglich sein - was ja nirgends geschrieben steht - wird der Account künftig von einer physischen Person betrieben, die in der Wahl des Nicknames frei ist, und eben "Unternehmen Alpen '78" als anonymen Nlckname führt.

@Pokéfan95: Well, I did this check already, because I notified her last upload in the recent files. Her files are obviously not copyvios, the EXIF are nearly consistent over all of them. Not all files seem to bee in scope, though, but that could be addressed elsewhere.
I think that reverting and warning is way not(!) enough, as this young woman is easily identifiable, and the postings pressing her to show a video are in my eyes somewhat near to (sexual) harassment. My opinion about useful actions are quite opposite of yours, as my envisaged spectrum of actions goes as far as a global lock for the alleged offender. Thank you Amitie. I do know the law. We own the original images - the rights fall under property rights, not copyright. Basically, if I own the original image you can not use it, unless you acquired a copy before I owned it. The only copies available are copies made by us. These images are not in the public domain. That is the short version. The bottom line is that these images can not be used without our permission.- We are only requesting that wikimedia not list our images in the public domain. Russian Language Map

There is an ongoing conflict occurring at File:RussianLanguageMap.png. There are a number of Wikipedia users who are drastically changing the map because of their disagreements with the representation of disputed regions. One of them commented on my talk page telling me about his disagreement and the other commented on the talk page of the file. I brought their attention to Disputed territories and said how there is a difference between Wikipedia and Commons as well as that Commons does not have the same NPOV policy as Wikipedia. I told them how both version of POV's can exits on Commons and that instead of drastically changing one file you should upload a new one. I don't want to involve myself into a further edit war, so I would like to request a file protection for File:RussianLanguageMap.png with the version that existed before their edits. My comment is definitely not intended to block any of the users as I am sure that this occurred because of simple confusion over Wikipedia and Commons policies. Taivo, The whole reason I requested the change is to keep the disputed territories the way they were represented before. If your issue is about the wording then you could see that there was a consensus on the talk page about the wording and how we agree that it should be changed. We also agreed that the way disputed regions were shown on this map should be changed and that Iryna Harpy would upload a new version with disputed regions hatched. My request was directed to ensure that both POVs have their map which would mean leaving this one the same. I really doubt that the people who upload the copyrighted movies/music for people using Wikipedia Zero are using Wikipedia Zero themselves, they need access to the entire Internet to find the copyrighted content before uploading it on Commons. I remember the "Angola Fecebook Case" where especially some admins of related Facebook groups wasted mobile credits for "their" audience, providing music & video files via Commons.

User:Wdwdbot (bot)

I am requesting that the bot Wdwdbot (Contributions) be blocked until one of its tasks can be verified and/or cancelled. I've run across a few files that the bot has uploaded which probably should not have been uploaded here. The bot seems to have a task where it looks through the "File:" namespace of other Wikimedia projects that allow hosting of files (such as the German Wikipedia) and transfers most, if not all, files that are tagged as public domain. This task has to be done by a human being and not a bot for one major reason: A human needs to verify that the public domain tag is valid prior to transferring the file to Wikimedia Commons. Erroneous uploads result in an increased amount of files that editors here on Commons have to look at to find out if those files need to be deleted. Anyways, here are a few examples of what files the bot has uploaded that have questionable public domain tags:

  1. File:Österreichischer drogistenverband.svg
  2. File:ZSK Vorwärts KVP Berlin.gif
  3. File:Aerovias DAP.jpg
  4. File:Zijin Mining Logo.svg

Per the bot's contribution list, there are possibly hundreds of other public domain files transferred from the German Wikipedia by this bot. However, I did notice that this bot has not edited since May 2, so the transfer of these files may have been a one-time task. Either way, the fact that the bot uploaded such a large amount of public domain-tagged files from the German Wikipedia with questionable tags is rather alarming. An editor doing this continuously would be blocked, so the fact that a bot seems to be transferring these files while having no way to verify the tag seems to also be a grounds for blocking. (Note: I was unable to find a place to report possibly malfunctioning bots on Wikimedia Commons, so if this needs to be moved elsewhere, please let me know.) Steel1943 (talk) 18:21, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Steel1943, this wdwdbot runs manually assisted only by me - as stated on the bot user page. The bot does nothing on "magically" or automatic. It processes in advance manually prepared list of filenames. The bot transfered mostly files from de.wp to commons which are suitable here on commons. In this particular case the transfer was a bunch of PD-Textlogos (over 1500 files) from de:Kategorie:Datei:Commonsfähiges Logo. The transfer was done after a simple (manually and "human") examination if the subset of files are simple enough to be below COM:TOO and suitable here on commons.
Of course, I'm not perfect. So maybe there is one or another transfer error and some (minor) files which are clearly not below TOO and without permission, for example this one (i started a speedy deletion on this file). The four files you mention seems not to be very complex and in my opinion suitable for PD-textlogo - If in doubt a regular DR would be appropriate as the threshold in TOO varied. (comment: All four files are in use)
If there are some other concerns regarding the file transfers from de.wp to commons, for example to much erroneous transfers or to limit the amount of transferd files per day or per week to give other users an easier possibility to review the transfers, we could this discuss. This is one of those cases where one has to use common sense. Clearly, a name like User:MaintenanceBot would be misleading for anything but an actual bot, while usernames based on surnames ending in -bot, such as Talbot, Cabot, Abbot etc. would be fine. Indeff is appropriate for a copyvio-only account that continues to upload unfree files after warning. Remember that indeff does not mean 'infinite', and that the user can request removal of the block at any time on their talk page. That requires some minimal effort from the user, and they will need to indicate that they understand and respect our rules, which is the required result. Approximately 100 CC icons were NOT properly (or "porperly") licensed under {{PD-textlogo}} when I tried to remove the improper licenses from them. There was a massive copyfraud problem. NOTE: The term copyfraud doesn't imply fraud or bad faith! Don't ignorantly assume otherwise! The ~100 CC icons were IMproperly tagged with under CC license tags that didn't apply. Due to Denniss' copyfraud (see NOTE!) and use of administrative tools to perpetuate it, I could not fix the licenses BUT that one was fixed by an admin, Revent, months later. He also fixed the ~100 others. Your false, revisionist history is defamatory, Amitie. I'm sick and tired of you misrepresenting my views. It is false claim that {{PD-textlogo}} or any other valid copyright tag, appeared on the vast majority of CC logo images when I tried to address the massive copyfraud. Proof is the ~100 edits Revent made to fix said massive copyfraud problem, If File:Creative commons license spectrum.svg is now properly licensed, good. It was NOT properly tagged when I brought the issue to the uploader's attention; the uploader initially reverted me ... and was yet again defiant about the copyright issue at 20:13, so I opened the DR at 21:03, not noticing that the uploader had come 'round and fixed the trademark issue moments earlier, at 20:55, and claimed PD status at 20:20.   • It will take a lot of time to undo the damage done by the user and identify all copyright violations. It would be good if they could be prevented from continuing to make matters worse during this time.

Ebyabe's talk page

User talk:Ebyabe got vandalised by an IP-hopping user who's also been doing a bit of vandalism at several other WMF projects and even attacked Ebyabe's talk page on a Wikia site. Lots of details here with supplemental information here. The same IP even edit-warred at COM:AN/V, removing Ebyabe's report against the IP and replacing it with a report against Ebyabe; this is absurd, and I've blocked the IP.

Because of the vandalism and this person's history of sockpuppetry (apparently this is the person responsible for en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bigshowandkane64/Archive), Ebyabe asked for indefinite semiprotection of his talk page, as was done at the Wikia site. I've semiprotected the talk page only for a week, because I'm not clear on this — are we generally willing to semiprotect user talk pages indefinitely? Blocking an account with a rude word in it or which may be a personal attack is understandable. However please note Commons:Username policy states "inappropriate usernames do not need to be reported or blocked if the user has made no contributions", and I find it surprising that accounts like Fuck420 (talk · contribs · logs · block log) are getting blocked where the name is rude, but there have been zero contributions on Commons, and the account was created over 3 years ago, so there is basically no chance that it was ever going to be used in the future.

The username policy doesn't state don't report nor block inappropriate usernames that have made no contributions. And the When there is no evidence that an account was created in bad faith, administrators should explain the exact reason why they have blocked the user in either the block log or in a message on the editor's talk page and include a link to the appropriate part of this policy. (the bold is mine) part says that it is not required for admins to explain why they have blocked an account where there is no evidence that it was created in bad faith, because should is just a recommendation, not a requirement. No, we don't need more bureaucracy, just understand correctly what we have. Let's not waste time by making work and changing policies for the sake of it.
Administrative actions are taken only when necessary. This means that administrators should seek to avoid unnecessary actions. Blocking an inactive user account today, that was created 3 years ago, and has made zero contributions to this project, is not necessary. Taking no action would be sufficient as the account poses no risk to any individual or this project, in fact blocking such accounts just draws attention to it.
Commons:Username policy is perfectly good to cover inaction in these cases and "inappropriate usernames do not need to be reported or blocked if the user has made no contributions" makes that easily understandable. --Fæ (talk) 11:39, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
