User:ЩЩЩ

This user will not stop removing licensing information from, and passive-aggressively demanding the deletion of, File:RU COA Shehawcow XII-90.png, with the reasoning that they own the rights to the file. When I added a copyright violation tag to one of their uploaded images, they passive-aggressively made a joke about me deleting "free content". They then proceeded to beg me on my talk page to delete the previously mentioned file. Most of their contributions are them attacking this specific file and its talk page and denying any reasoning. This file has been nominated twice with clear consensus to keep, and every time the user is asked to log in to the uploading account, and he brushes it off. Even in the very small chance that he actually owns the rights to this image, it was created over 120 years ago, which means that it is valid to store on commons per Template:PD-old-assumed. If it can't be determined if they are telling the truth (which I truly doubt), I suggest a temporary block. Lallint⟫⟫⟫Talk 20:01, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

I told them about this, and he wrote a message on their talk page saying "What a stupid man who asked me to do this!! Don't make me angry!" and proceeded to type in all caps some other poorly translated / written text that I assume is asking to be made an administrator on some other site. Cross-wiki sockpuppetry and User:Rajesh56om

As noted at en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Rajesh56om, there has been cross-wiki rockpuppetry involving enWiki and Wikimedia commons relating to images and articles of Rajesh Kumar Ram (also known as "devilraj"). The individual is some sort of musical artist and there is a recurring problem where promotional drafts of the artist are being repeatedly re-created on enWiki, many of which are using images that rockpuppet accounts have uploaded to commons. Results of a checkuser are available at the enWiki rockpuppet investigation casepage and it appears that many of those accounts have abused commons by uploading images for promotional purposes:

The rockmaster, Rajesh56om, has an account on commons but does not appear to have uploaded any images. Socks that have uploaded images or otherwise have commons accounts are as follows:

  • Tanmaydalayi has made one image upload to commons: a photograph of Rajesh Kumar Ram. The photo was a cross-wiki upload to commons made while creating a promotional draft on the English Wikipedia
  • Hirooxx has made one image upload to commons: a photograph of Rajesh Kumar Ram that was immediately used in a promotional draft on enWiki created by that editor.
  • Ofcl_devilraj has made several uploads to commons that appear to be of Rajesh Kumar Ram (a.k.a. Devilraj).
  • OfficialDevilraj has made several edits to commons, though all appear to be deleted.
  • Bruhking56om has made two uploads to commons, all of which appear to be related to Rajesh Kumar Ram (a.k.a. Devilraj).

The rockmaster, after being blocked repeatedly on enwiki, has made multiple accounts in order to evade scrutiny across multiple wikis. I believe that these accounts should be indefinitely blocked for abusing multiple accounts, based off of the Checkuser evidence available on enWiki as well as the behavioral evidence described on above. Hi there, can you protect the files that were on Category:CoA Lab-fr? I want to them be protected from being overwritten. I am requesting infinite protection on behalf of the project. If these files were to be overwritten, the project could get sued by mayorships from France (in other words, the French government) if we overwrite them. Uploads by Zebepa Zobp

Zebepa Zobp is uploading all kinds of copyvio images from IMDB, MyAnime, Alamy, and other places, and marking them as if they are the owner and licensing them with free licenses. It is extremely unlikely they are free images. More likely, they are promo images owned by the agencies that employ the people depicted in them. All of their contributions need to be deleted as copyvios. See Special:Contributions/Zebepa Zobp. I think they need to be blocked to prevent further uploading of such content. I'm trying to load a file from a domain https://zbiory.mnk.pl (e.g. file https://zbiory.mnk.pl/upload/multimedia/80/65/80658c4a617c51574ea736a2ebad0b7d.jpg) using Special:Upload, but I'm getting a message "Copy uploads are not available from this domain". Hello. There is a ban on most domains across all Wikimedia projects, i.e. domains need to be whitelisted explicitly to use a direct upload. So I'm afraid for the time being you need to download your image to your hard drive and then upload it. Please note also that whenever an image or video has been published before without a free licence at the original source website, we need a permission from the copyright holder sent by email. We are launching the official GLAM project in cooperation with Wikimedia Poland and the National Museum in Krakow, Poland (project page in Polish Wikipedia). The bot is working as intended. As a general policy, I do not make exclusions or fulfil individual protection-edit requests for all files that happen to be protected via the bot. See also Commons:Protection policy for relevant guidelines.
We have a large and active community that works on Wikimedia Commons. The particular bot operator or admin that protected a file or template indirectly does not need to be involved. (And I'm particularly recommending against it here, given that my bot protects a lot of files).
As per the protection policy, if you'd like to propose a change please use {{Editprotected}} on an admin noticeboard. It'll be easier if the file you're proposing to take its place is already uploaded and licensed first, so that an admin can then make the protected upload on your behalf, including the appropiate attribution and license of your choosing.
Unless the change is very small and nearly invisibe, I generally recommend against Overwriting existing files, and would recommend instead to only upload your own creation (marked as derivative work, if based on this SVG), and leave the original unchanged. You can then ask or edit individual pages that you use the SVG to refer to your version instead.
If I compare M49841877 to the logo on the official Commonwealth website, it seems like there isn't actualy an inaccuracy per-se. It's a completely different logo, likely from a redesign sometime between 2016 and today, in which case it would be even more important to not overwrite the existing file as that is an important historical reference that various articles may be intentionally referring to as such. Rodhullandemu deleted and create-protected this category themselves in 2019. They are now very obviously socking as an IP, having been globally banned by the WMF late last year, as well as being locally blocked here and on several other WMF sites already. Regardless of whether the protection was the right move at the time, it seems obvious that a globally banned user should not be able to permanently block the creation of a category for tracking their later abuses.

I'd also note that the protection does not prevent adding the obvious sock, user:94.174.111.230, to the category, which I have already done. They need to be blocked. Their claim of being the executor of Rod's estate, who has decided to be completely dedicated to all the exact same things Rod was "when he was alive" is laughable. His real identity is well known and documented here on Commons at user:Rodhullandemu/Attrib, he previously uploaded photos of himself, and he has posted quite a few times on social media in the time since the alleged death. I'm not sure why a CU would be needed here, in fact it is against global policy for a CU to publicly link an IP address to a specific account. Unless you meant for their expertise in dealing with sockpuppetry?
The match here is purely behaviorally based, this diff [8] from back in April is where they made their claim to be acting on his behalf. I don't see how anyone could read that and actually think they were being honest and it isn't just Phil Nash/Rodhullandemu making up a cover story, but it seems he somehow got away with this ploy back in April, and has been evading his block here and his global ban for several months on several WMF sites. There is a pending request at meta wiki for a global lock, but they are badly backlogged, it could be weeks before they even get to it, so a local block for block evasion seems warranted in the meantime. If this is "purely bevioural", as claimed above, you should consider that Rod made over 549,000 contributions to Commons. I have made many fewer than that and since I live in Liverpool, as Rod did, there is bound to be some small, even minute overlap, especially since I have a copy of his "ToDo" list, which is long. I would post his death certificate, but I can't for two reasons: the coroner has not yet issued one because of ongoing investigations which are unlikely to be resolved before Autumn, and it would be a breach of copyright to do so. I note that contributors to this thread have previously expressed an axe to grind against Rod, and I don't think that does them any credit. A while ago, I was banned on the Spanish Wikipedia for a false reason (the claim for my ban was "being a sockpuppet of Marrovi"). Email was disabled, and I can't even edit my own talk page (which is really the only place I can ask to get unbanned on there, at least that I could find). What happened was that AntoFran claimed I was a sockpuppet of Marrovi, since pretty much the only thing I did on the Spanish Wikipedia was add flags of Mexican municipalities, like Marrovi, who made a lot of fictional Mexican municipal flags years ago (which I've deleted recently, see the nomination for yourself at [28].) I will try to find the sockpuppet investigation page on the Spanish Wikipedia and reply with a link to it.

Creator template unprotection request

Hi. I recently added speedy delete requests to Creator:Alfred Anscombe and Creator:Alan Butterworth due to the fact that neither creator has created multiple works and therefore doesn't have multiple files related to them on Commons, which IMO negates the need for them to have creator templates. My speedy deletion requests where then reverted by DragonflySixtyseven. Who I subsequently discussed the matter with on my talk page. After which I re-added the speedy deletion requests since it seemed from the discussion that DragonflySixtyseven was fine with the templates being deleted. For some reason though Taivo (talk · contribs) reverted me and protected the templates due to "Counter-productive edit warring." It should be obvious that editing a template after a discussion in a way that both sides of the discussion are fine with isn't counter productive or edit warring. Even if the discussion between DragonflySixtyseven and I hadn't of taken place editing a page twice isn't edit warring anyway. Although it clearly isn't edit warring in this case since I discussed the last edit before I made it. I said as much to Taivo (talk · contribs) on his talk page and asked if he could unprotect the templates, but he refuses to admit to the mistake and won't unprotect the templates. I don't disagree with that in principle, but in the case of creator templates in particular they exist for a specific purpose which isn't being served by every random creator on the plant having one. For instance it creates a massive hassle for people who are trying to maintain the templates. Like the "Who should not have creator page" section of Commons:Creator says "Creator pages are templates meant to be transcluded in many files. It takes time and effort to maintain them, and there is no need to spend this effort on pages which are not going to be used as templates." I'm sure you'd agree it's generally better to follow the guidelines then do whatever we want based on our personal preferences. There's a "Who should not have creator page" section of Commons:Creator for a reason and assume it's not there just so we can ignore it. If someone wants to do a RfC to get that section of the guidelines changed, cool. Be my guest. I'm following the status quo in the meantime though. That said, the particulars of the guidelines is a completely separate issue to the files being wrongly protected. Enough people already ignore the rule that their shouldn't be creator templates for Commons users, Flickr accounts, and companies. All historical creators (pma + 50 years, of whom we could have some works) could have a Creator template, regardless of the number of works we already have. For still living creators, it depends. Notable living creators (i.e. by Wikipedia standards) could also have one, if we have at least one work. For others, it depends on the number of works. @Yann: I assume the reason it said "works" is because Who should not have creator page clearly says "who do not meet notability criteria" shouldn't have creator templates and it would be hard to find someone who created a single work before 50 years ago that is notable in any meaningful way. Like I've already mentioned having creator templates for single work creators also causes a lot of problems with doing maintenance on the templates. Plus there's just rarely enough information for people who created a single work before 50 years ago to justify them having a template in the first place. Honestly, I'm rather disappointed you and Guido den Broeder ignored that aspect of this and that you edited the page without a broader conversation happening first. I can guarantee if I unilaterally had of edited the page that my edit would have been reverted on site. Personally I don't really care if there are templates for single work creators, but I'd also like the issues it causes worked out before it becomes the norm. It's extremely easy for people who don't work in a particular area and are ignorant of the potential problems something might cause to just edit a guideline however they want it. A.Savin: thanks for ping. (I'll try to answer in English though my Russian is better cause it's native). Due to new job, I haven't such time to protect the category and to watch the categories of Moscow municipalities (in Russia we called them 'rayon' - район). However, I consider renaming Category:Brateyevo → Category:Brateyevo District useless and created just for stuffing growing the number of edits. The main argument is that Commons categories must not required to be named one to one with the names in the English Wikipedia. Just a name in English is enough. We repeatedly warned Alexander Motin not to do not rename all categories en masse under a unied format, but think in each case. In Russia Wikipedia the name "Brateyevo" is unique in whole country - see ru:Братеево, other terms don't have Wikimedia Commons category or named differently, and has less weight compared to the Moscow district. Maybe Category:Maryino District is good for ru:Марьино (район Москвы)/w:Maryino District due to long list of this. But the current case is another. It's the same case like Category:Moskvorechye-Saburovo. So I'll keep the name of category Category:Brateyevo for Moscow district. Yeah, I also think that the Alexander Motin's work of the mass renaming of categories is meaningless and harmful, and needs to be stopped. In principle, if I were A. Savin, I would apply sanctions to the user. Wikimedia Commons administrators have the right to block problem users from Wikimedia Commons. =) And the user, unfortunately, is problematic. Brateyevo is the name of both the village and the district. They are two different entities. The district seems more prominent than the village but the word 'district' is not commonly used to denote it, so Category:Brateyevo is fine. A subcategory Brateyevo village could be created sometime in the future when there are more files. However is category looping explained somewhere? The full protection of said page is problematic.

  1. The page wasn't updated since the 2017 contest and no sysop has processed or answered the request to add Slovenia on its talk page. The page is linked on every page of the external official WLM website (except for the main page), but noone cared for the page and the requests on the discussion page.
  2. In my opinion, Commons:Protection policy does not justify a permanent full protection and there are more important pages that are just semi-protected.
  3. On the other hand, the page seems redundant (though prettier) with the current contest's Participating countries page, e.g. Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2022/Participating countries, so a redirect would also do, if it is regularily updated or a ParserFunction can be used (I don't know if redirect pages can use ParserFunctions).

@Taivo: The source for that image is a YouTube video made by someone obviously not the creator. That being said, copyright on photographs in Iran is 30 years after publication (per COM:IRAN), so if the image was published in Khomeini's lifetime it's in the public domain. It's going to take a while to track down when the photo was first published/publicly presented. There's one Iranian website written in Russian that places the photograph as being taken in 1396, which (if this is the Islamic Calendar's year), would imply that the photo is from c. AD 1976. My Russian isn't good enough to pick up whether that's implying that's the date the photo was taken, though it's at least plausible that this is {{PD-Iran}}. The CC license, however, is clearly not correct.

Comment The user Kirurgh is intentionally falsifying the source I used to create this map and is now edit-warring to try to get the map protected under his version. He has not only deteriorated the resolution of my map but also put the Albanian settlements under the other settlements contradictory to what the source portrays. You do not own the map. You had used a deliberately faint color for the Greek settlements to make them harder to see. And you had also used an almost identical color for "Cultivated land" and the "Albanian settlements", to try and inflate the visual effect of the Albanian settlements. Both of these have been rectified, but of course you don't like that. By the way the resolution is identical, and there are no "other settlements" on the map, so the accusations are totally fabricated. Khirurg (talk) 14:30, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
You are edit-warring about colors you would prefer to use and came here to try to protect the map under your version which is obviously falsifying the academic source. You intentionally put the Albanian settlements under the other ones, which the source doesn't do. I have already told you that you can make your own map where you can chose your own colors, etc. Please try to achieve consensus first, this is ridiculous. Ahmet Q. What's ridiculous is that you deliberately used a very faint colors for the Greek settlements to make them harder to see, whereas the original source (to which I have access by the way), uses a much stronger blue color for the Greek settlements. Colors can easily be changed, they do not change in any way the information from the source. You are the only one falsifying the source by putting the Albanian settlements underneath the others, which again, the academic doesn't do. Can you explain to everyone here why you are doing this? What the hell are you talking about? I did not "put the Albanian settlements underneath the others". I could just ask easily accuse you of "putting the Albanian settlements on top of the others." Now answer the question: Why did you use an extremely faint color for the Greek settlements, when the source uses a highly saturated blue color (which I have rectified)? I am open for changing the colors, however the discussion was not finished and it is not you who decides on your own what will happen when multiple editors are involved. You need to familiarize yourself with consensus. Also you know what I am talking about, I told you three times already. This behavior is just sad, really. Not only does the color of the Greek settlements need to be changed to a high saturation blue (as is the case with the red of the Albanian settlements), but the color of "cultivated land" needs to be changed to something neutral, for example green, because right now it's almost identical to the shade of red of the Albanian settlements, leading to visual inflation of the apparent number of Albanian settlements.
