Original speedy deletion rationale (under COM:CSD#F1) that was reverted: Per message I recieved from Freddy McKinney regarding his and Alex Resel's images being shared on Commons: "That would be great if you could take those down! [...] I still don't like my stuff being shared without permission and I know Alex feels the same way" confirming that they did not release these images to the public domain or under a free license, and would like them to be taken down.
I can confirm that Freddy does chase with Alex and has maintained contact with him, and he therefore can confirm that Alex does feel the same way that he does about these images being shared, and has not released these images to the public domain or under a free license either, meaning that this file should be deleted from Commons as a copyright violation as well. Delete -- more fundamentally because there is no evidence of permission that the photographer has released this image, and I have also received an email from the photographer asserting that they still own the copyright to this image. Portrait made in 1991, past the date where creations had to be registered for copyright. Painter Ruth A. Nestor died in 2002, with the photograph by Garth's Auctioneers & Appraisers in 2017. PD-1996 does not apply as 1) unlikely to be published outside the United States first 2) Not published before 1989 or 1964 3) unlikely to be published in another country. Uploader also said that "Portrait on public display in Ohio Statehouse since 1994", but being on public display doesn't make it public domain since it was made in 1991. reppoptalk 00:58, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

User:Adamant1 made a speedy deletion, with reason "CSD G2 (unused and implausible, or broken redirect)", but I think this is loss of information. There are 10 links to this page. There were discussions about this page before (Commons:Deletion requests/London Underground geographic maps/Tables (2010) and the unfinished Commons:Categories for discussion/2021/05/Category:Taipei Metro geographic maps). And there is no policy yet what how to handle this kind of pages (see Commons talk:Galleries#How to handle Gallery pages with a wrong format?. JopkeB (talk) 04:08, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
This also affects:
- London Underground geographic maps/SQL
- London Underground geographic maps/PHP
- London Underground geographic maps/CSV
They are all linked to in London Underground geographic maps#Source data, a proper gallery page. --JopkeB (talk) 04:17, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- There actually is a policy about how to handle these types of galleries. Speedy deletion criteria G1 and G2 cover these things already. --Adamant1 (talk) 06:43, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
*Done All of these are already covered by both G1 and G2 of the speesy deletion. There's absolutely no reason what-so-ever that they wouldn't qualify for speedy deletion under either one. --Adamant1 (talk) 06:44, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Disagree Where should the information go to? Will that be deleted as well? I consider that as loss of information. JopkeB (talk) 10:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

- It appears that Caitlin Spice, who provided the photo and at my request published the license release on Twitter, has since forgotten all about it and deleted her X profile. I woulnd't blame her, the site's nature has changed dramatically. I will contact Caitlin on her other online presence points and seek a republication of the release. Please hold off on the deletion. The Japanese government is unlikely to be the author and the copyright holder. This person was a fugitive who was not arrested in 1973, and it's unlikely that the police was able to take a photo like this at that time. (If they were, this person would have been arrested.) It's likely that the police obtained the photograph from someone else, and used it. It's reasonable to assume the police is allowed to use it by the photographer but that doesn't mean everyone else is, too. In order for this to be accepted at Commons, you would need to find the author, and obtain license from them, not from the Japanese government. The press has freedom to republish it for journalistic purposes, but that's not enough for COM:L. whym (talk) 07:50, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

As the "mural" to the left looks rather recent, it's likely still in copyright by the original photographer. Unfortunately. Italy has no freedom-of-panorama exception. So, a permission by the photographer is needed or the image needs to be deleted. -- Túrelio (talk) 07:54, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]These files appear to originate from the findagrave.com user Issa Miller (https://www.findagrave.com/user/51829589/photos/m) - some give no source or credit the book "The Diary of Mathew Miller", but are using the exact same very-low-res image files as Issa Miller's findagrave contributions from earlier in 2024.
The fact that File:Sketch of Mathew Miller, c. 1835.jpg is misidentified (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393183319275 shows it to be a drawing of J Pinkney Henderson from a Daily Historic trading card, with his name printed beneath - this upload is possibly via https://etc.usf.edu/clipart/1800/1845/mosley_2.htm with a background texture reapplied) casts some doubt over how accurately Miller has been able to identify these historical figures, and I can find no corroborating images online to confirm their identities.

Delete Wow, Amazing detective work on the match to J. Pinkney Henderson. I changed the name and added the correct category. I agree that the error was so blatant and the other attributions so fuzzy that they should be deleted. For instance if the entire oil painting is rephotographed it can be reloaded. How do we fix the error at FAG, since the image is the same there? I will check Familysearch to see if the error is repeated there. --RAN (talk) 03:27, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

This is an image of me, taken without my consent. And my last name is misspelled (Häikkilä instead of Heikkilä). I find the image a little offensive, and I uploaded a new one that's more recent and accurate. Thank you. Issiekatt (talk) 11:49, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's very positive that User talk:Issiekatt has uploaded the new photo, which is a better illustration to the article than the 2018 one discussed here. I´ve substituted the 2021 one for the 2018 one also on Wikipedia in Polish.
- I´ve no specific opinion in the matter of deletion or not. (The argument about "taken without my consent" is irrelevant, however, as no consent is necessary for taking pictures at the Göteborg Book Fair, or publishing such pictures.) Boberger (talk) 14:40, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- To be clear, you're referring to File:Cecilia Heikkilä.jpg. It's a better photo, but there are copyright issues to resolve, as it is stated to be User:Issiekatt's own work but certainly does not appear to be a selfie. Issiekatt, if you own the copyright to the photo, please contact COM:VRT; otherwise, please credit the photographer and have them contact the VRT if they are willing to give an acceptable license - which allows commercial use of the photo. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:31, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

This map is based on fake sources and was created by some Reddit users for racist purposes, as it artificially lowers the IQ of Kurdish regions. Richard Lynn, whose name is associated with this claim, is likely unaware of its existence. Additionally, other sources cited in the map are Turkish nationalists. Unfortunately, many people believe this false information as it appears among the top search results on Google, misleadingly under the guise of Wikipedia. Richard Lynn claimed that the average IQ in Turkey is 86, but it is illogical to suggest that 19% of Kurds, who have an average IQ of 87, could lower the national average to 86. This misleading content should be removed. Source: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/average-iq-by-country 185.187.78.36 13:39, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Delete. No sources, and this is incomprehensible as a data visualization - there are at least two different maps overlaid on each other in the image at slightly different scales, and the scale makes no sense whatsoever (it appears to show the scale running from purple to transparent, whereas the map includes colors like yellow and green). I realize this is technically COM:INUSE, but it's incredibly bad. Omphalographer (talk) 04:02, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

- This code is by intention corrupted because it was originally taken from a personal train ticket and I did not want to expose any information by publishing it. It is "for illustrative purpose only" as written in the description. In 2005 this was the only way for me to get an illustration of this kind of code. Today there are many generators that could be used to create a code not containing critical information. I am not opposing complete to the deletion, because it is currently not used except in my personal gallery and there may be better illustrations today. Just keep in mind that it may be useful one day as a historical source. -- Dr. Schorsch (talk) 15:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

However, it didn't look to me like the kind of image that NWS employees create in the course of their work, so I checked with the NWS regional office that publised it. Here's what they told me:

This file was initially tagged by Pigsonthewing as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: Source of photograph not specified and photographer not credited; copyright expiry applies to the logo, not the photograph See my talk page. Yann (talk) 17:22, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
I no longer had the original, but a picture of it was saved in my files for reference purposes. It was a copy of a copy and the quality was not that great. But it was still acceptable. I downloaded it from my scanner to my computer to Commons, several years ago. Most importantly, it backed up a section on the artist Paul Martin at Wikipedia. He was commissioned to create a new character for a then well-known tire company in 1929. This character appeared on various promotional products. One of them was a rubber heel replacement part for shoes. I have never seen this image anywhere else. It's referred to in the Paul Martin article, and would be impossible to back up without the restoration of this file. Otherwise, a tiny spec of history may be lost. On the image, the uploader is visible, who is indeed an encyclopedic figure. However, we already have numerous images of this character, and it's difficult to argue for an additional educational context for the image, given that the subject occupies most of the frame and there are several similar images (Prudnik, 2024.09.14 60.jpg, Prudnik, 2024.09.14 61.jpg, etc.). - I have previously quoted the section of the link that I provided (http://www.combatcamera.forces.gc.ca/site/combat-camera-eng.asp), which does name the image being free for public use, however I will point it out once again. In the About Us text, this quote can be found in the "We Provide" section and reads: "We provide: rapid professional quality imagery for public use from wherever the CAF operates".
- The link you have provided in your response is not connected to the Canadian Forces Digital Image Centre or Combat Camera other than both being linked on the Canadian government website. However, even in the link you provided it still clearly states that the use of this image would fall under "exemptions", where it does not require copyright.

1957 map, possibly still in copyright. Abzeronow (talk) 20:05, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's for sure not the "own work" of the uploader, as claimed. On the other hand, Copyright status depends on who created the map (government-made maps in the US are in the public domain), and which copyright laws are applied (as far as I know, some courts have previously ruled maps being databases/compilations, which would not be awarded a level of originality worthy to protect as long as you would original works - i.e. a 1950s map might be okay). What also concerns me is the weird presentation in en:K-57 (Kansas highway), where a single map is labelled as being two different maps. --Enyavar (talk) 12:21, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
1960 photograph, no information on publication, which would be needed to determine copyright status. Abzeronow (talk) 20:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Keep This appears to be a hand tinted photo popular in the 1960s. In the USA for an image to be eligible for a copyright prior to 1964 you had to register and renew each image you wanted to copyright, and no image of this person under any variation of their name appears in either database. As to publication, the courts have deemed images to be "made public" when they leave the custody of the creator and are turned over to the sitter, not just appearing in a magazine or newspaper. If you read the case law the original is the photographic negative and the positive prints are copies that have been distributed. --RAN (talk) 00:53, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

This file was initially tagged by Ahecht as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: If this is based on the version adopted 29 April 2019, as indicated in the edit summary, {{PD-UKGov}} does not apply.
Obviously, a speedy deletion is not acceptable in this case, as we are dealing with a file with very extensive use. This requires discussion. Fry1989 eh? 21:32, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Info:
- The current versions of the coastline and the water were uploaded in March 2006 with the comment "Improved version, e-mailed to uploader by author of xrmap, size quadrupled, PD". The xrmap README file indicates that the flag is originally from Openclipart. I only found one Saint Helena flag there from 2010 (https://openclipart.org/detail/61147/saint-helena).
- The current versions of the ship and the bird were uploaded in May 2019 and apparently were based on https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/st-helena-government-adopts-updated-coat-of-arms/ . The images on that page don't load and it doesn't contain licensing information other than "The Shield can be used on souvenirs, other products, websites, and for promoting St Helena generally."
- The St Helena Government website has a page for the flag (https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/st-helena/st-helena-flag-2/), but it doesn't contain licensing information either.
