Copyrighted in the United States. The copyright of this image did not expire by 1 January 1996. Freedom4U (talk) 16:43, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Not PD-US (copyright in France didn't expire until after 1996) so it clearly violates Commons copyright policy. Buidhe (talk) 13:49, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete unless documentation can be provided regarding its publication history. Emiya1980 (talk) 23:37, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am seeing a 1942 date on an non-cropped version of the photo that looks an awful lot like a published version (view 24). That would be more than 70 years ago. I'm also seeing what looks like letters sent in 1940 (view 26) and 1941 (view 27). So I'm a  Delete until 2035 unless I'm missing something. For future reference, the uploaded image was view 23. •  Delete. For us to maintain an image on Commons, it's our responsibility as users to demonstrate that we have a right to do so, whether because of something like Creative Commons licensing or the image lapsing into the public domain in the United States. Neither can be demonstrated for this image. Hydrangeans (talk) 21:15, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: no valid reason for deletion. As an official portrait, this was probably a work for hire. I don't see who could claim a copyright today. It is very unlikely that the current French State would claim a copyright owned by the Vichy State. Much beyond significant doubt, which is required by Commons policies. --Yann (talk) 19:30, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
