Sculptures murales d'inspiration tantrique sur les murs du temple Kandarîya Mahadeveda à Khajuraho. Pour le Tantrisme, il ne s'agit pas de représentations de poses sexuelles mais de celles de couples yogi unis dans l'extase et servant de symbole universel à l'accomplissement spirituel (Genetical craftmanship of the word of God). Le Tantrisme tente de saisir la nature du temps et de remonter l'échelle de la Genèse en réveillant toutes les énergies et les émotions disponibles, pour les rassembler et en faire le véhicule vers l'Illumination. Ce temple est dédié à Shiva, il a été construit entre 1025 et 1050 Le Temple de Kandariya Mahadeva est le plus grand et le plus décoré de l'ensemble de temples hindouistes de Khajuraho dans l'état du Madhya Pradesh en Inde. Il est considéré comme l'un des meilleurs exemples des temples de l'époque médiévale en Inde. A l'époque médiévale, le site appelé Jejakbhukti, était la capitale du royaume des rajas Chandelas qui ont pris le pouvoir au début du Xème siècle. Ils y ont fait construire 85 temples dont seulement 25 existent encore aujourd'hui dans différents états de conservation mais tous ont été restaurés. Le site de Khajuraho a perdu de son importance vers 1500. La plupart des temples sont construits en grès, certains sont en granite. Ils font partie des chefs-d’œuvre de l'art hindou.
