| Description | I’ve been wanting to take this photo for a long time now and everything came together last night with the conditions, despite a quarter moon on the opposite end of the sky. Pictured here the core of the Milky Way rises above the horizon, but what is special about this view is the green glow. In this direction looking east from Cape Byron, there is literally nothing for thousands of miles until you hit Chile, maybe 15,000kms away. So the glow is not light pollution or sunlight, or moonlight, but the faint emission of Earth itself. Earth’s natural “glow” which shows that it is never truly dark, wherever you are on the planet. The Milky Way is so bright though, you can see it’s reflection on the ocean. 5 x 15s / f3.2 / ISO 3200 Canon 70D and Tokina 11-16mm |
