Kāyavijñāna (P. kāyaviññāṇa; T. lus kyi rnam par shes pa ལུས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་; C. shenshi 身識) is translated as "body consciousness," "tactile consciousness," etc.
The body consciousness arises through contact (sparsa) between tangible objects and the body faculty.
The body consciousness perceives/congnizes tangible objects.
The body consciousness is identified as:
- one of the five types of consciousness that percieves the five sense objects
- one of the six types of consciousness
- one of the eighteen dhatus
