Formatting issues for imported templates

  • The following templates are not displaying properly
    • Templates based on template "infobox" template are not right-aligning in same way as on Wikipedia. Why?
    • Templates based on template "sidebar with collapsible lists" (check name) are not collapsing, and not aligning with images.
    • Templates based on "Nav" template--similar issues
Probably all fixed. Was just a case of importing Mediawiki:Common.css see Imported infoboxes do not align to the right side of the page and are missing borders Robert Walker (talk) 14:54, 7 May 2018 (CDT)

"Buddhist term" template

  • Not sure why the "Buddhist term" template results in all the extra categories at bottom of page such as "Articles containing Sanskrit language text".
It's added using the {{Lang}} templates in {{infobox Buddhist term}}. Wikipedeia:Category:Articles containing Sanskrit-language text Robert Walker (talk) 20:25, 7 May 2018 (CDT)
That in turn #invoke of the Lua module Module:Lang
to disable all language maintenance categories in this wiki I have just commented out the lines
-- table.insert (out, make_category (code, language_name, args.nocat));
in that lua. If we ever need them we can just roll back that edit.
To do this I also had to disable the spam filter as for some reason it prevented me editing the module
Don't see how we need it at all as a closed wiki so can leave it switched off, commented out the line in LocalSettings.php

Template review

  • Need to review most templates after these issues are fixed, and see what is appropriate.

Page ratings

  • Eventually, it might be nice to be able to drop a template at the top pages to indicate some sort of page rating (e.g. "Excellent", "good", "needs work", "needs rewrite", "has not been reviewed by editors", etc.)

Wikipedia Attribution templates

"Buddhism" and "Buddhist topics" templates

  • I have redirected these templates to "Template:Void" as an interim solution.
  • These can be removed from articles over time
May want to do the same for {{Buddhism2}} as well then, used by one article, deleted on wikipedia. For now I'll redirect it to {{Buddhism}}. However, just wanted to check the reason for removing it. It looks as if it could be useful, of course would need a new title. Is it because it duplicates the "About" page? An editorial decision? Fine with me, just wanted to make sure we are on the same page and that it's what you intend.

Okay - and you don't want it any more - is there any chance that you might want another template in its place on all those articles? If it is just set to void then it has no visual effect whether set to void or removed, and since someone went to the work of adding it to all those articles, if we would like to add a template to them all in the future we may find it useful to still have it. Just a thought. Like, it's non urgent, no visual effect, can think over whether it might be useful for something. Robert Walker (talk) 01:49, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
I have just been removing these templates from any article that I happen to be editing. I am not sure if there would ever be a benefit to having the same template on every page. -- Dorje108 (talk) 19:44, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

I've edited this template to turn it into just a reminder to us rather than a request to the reader of the article to fix it.

Also changed the Module:Message box/configuration so that the remove notice is just a reminder to us to look it over.

Templates and wanted pages

I have been going through the list of wanted pages, and I notices that most (or all) of the articles at the top of this list (those with the most links) are there because there are links to these articles from a template (e.g. Template:Tibetan Buddhism sidebar). 'Infobox Buddhist term' formatting issue

Being phased out gradually.

Use of wikidata in infobox

Just fixed the Asita page by removing /Wikidata from the {{Infobox religious biography}} - previously was {{Infobox religious biography/Wikidata}}

Previously it was using Module:WikidataIB which didn't exist. I copied that over from Wikipedia but it still had a script error Lua error in Module:WikidataIB at line 248: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value).'[1], I don't know what it means but it isn't used so just removed the /Wikidata for now, looks the same as the wikipedia article. Added this as a new template to replace the text where you say "NOTE: THIS ARTICLE NEEDS ATTENTION"

- that way can change styling and text for it all in one go and can find the articles that need attention by looking at the list of articles linking to the template.

Also similarly made {{Section-Needs-Attention}}

{{NeedsFixed}}

This is for use for messages to show to the reader rather than ourselves. I have used it in

At present just says "Let us know if you see anything that needs to be fixed, thanks! " - can edit it to whatever one wants all in one place.

I haven't used that last one anywhere but it could be added to a biography of a living person - not sure about that. But the {{NeedsFixed}} could be used in that way as a generic message to use to show to people if we want an alert to show to the reader rather than ourselves.
