Gelong Thubten

Gelong Thubten is a Buddhist monk, meditation teacher and author from the UK. He was educated at Oxford University, and then became an actor, in London and New York. He then ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk in 1993 at Kagyu Samye Ling, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Scotland.[1]

He has spent over six years in intensive meditation retreats, the longest of which was 4 years, and he has trained with several teachers. Thubten specialises in teaching mindfulness meditation internationally, in businesses, hospitals, schools, universities, prisons and addiction counselling centres. He works with major clients such as Google, LinkedIn, Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Siemens, Accenture, the NHS and Clifford Chance.

In his lectures, he speaks of his personal experience of coping with with severe anxiety and depression.

He is the author of two books:

  • A Monk's Guide to Happiness.
  • Handbook for Hard Times - A Monk's Guide to Fearless Living.

He also collaborated with Ash Ranpura and Ruby Wax on the book How to Be Human.
