īśvara (T. དབང་ཕྱུག་) Literally “Lord” or "powerful one," this is an epithet for the god Śiva but functions more generally in Buddhist texts as a generalized “supreme being” to whom the creation of the universe is attributed.[1] It is often synonymous with Maheśvara, though sometimes the two are presented as separate deities.[1]
