Lokapāla

lokapāla (T. ‘jig rten skyong ba; C. si tianwang 四天王). Literally, “guardians of the world,” “protectors of the world,” etc. An alternate name for the "four great kings" (caturmahārāja) who were converted by the Buddha and entrusted with protecting the inhabitants of the world.[1]
