mahāsthāna (T. gnas chen; C. lingdi 靈地). Literally, "great site," "great place," etc.[1] This term refers to an important or sacred place.[2]
Traditional Buddhist sources list four or eight "great sites" in India, which are important places of pilgrimage.[1]
