Mahorāga

mahorāga (T. lto 'phye chen po; C. mohouluojia 摩睺羅迦). Literally “large serpent.” A nonhuman being that takes the form of a large serpent, sometimes with a human torso and head. They make up a class of subterranean geomantic spirits whose movement through the seasons and months of the year is deemed significant for construction projects.

They are one of the eight classes of non-human beings (aṣṭasenā) that attended the Buddha's teaching, according to some sutras.
