Patanjali as an avatar of Shesha.

Patañjali, also called Gonardiya or Gonikaputra, was a Hindu author, mystic and philosopher. He is best known as the author of the Yoga Sutras, a foundational text of the orthodox Hindu Yoga school. He is also credited as the author of the Mahābhāṣya ("Great Commentary"), a text on Sanskrit grammar.

Estimates based on analysis of his works suggests that he may have lived between the 2nd century BCE and the 4th century CE.[1] Patanjali is regarded as an avatar of Adi Sesha, a semi-divine water spirit (naga).[2]
