Potowa Rinchen Sel (T. po to ba rin chen gsal པོ་ཏོ་བ་རིན་ཆེན་གསལ་) (1027-1105) was one of the three main students of Dromtönpa, and the one who particularly received all of his main writings (Wyl. gzhung).[1]

At the age of twenty-eight, in 1058, Potowa went to Radreng Monastery and became a student of Dromtönpa, who was the main disciple of Atiśa Dīpaṃkara.[2]

After Dromtönpa passed away in 1064, Potowa went into retreat for roughly fifteen years.[2] At the age of fifty he began teaching, staying at various places. Later in life he founded the Poto Monastery in Penyul. He also served as abbot of Reting Monastery.[2]

Potowa held the teaching lineage of the Six Basic Texts of the Kadampa:[2][3]

He also taught Atiśa's Bodhipatapradipa.[2]

His main students were Sharawa Yönten Drak and Langri Thangpa, who were known as the 'Sun and Moon of Ü'.[1]
