Princess Wencheng (Tibetan: Mung-chang Kungco; Chinese: 文成公主; pinyin: Wénchéng Gōngzhǔ; Wade–Giles: Wen-ch'eng Kung-chu; 628–680/2[1]) was a member of the royal clan of the Chinese Tang dynasty who married the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 641. She was one of two wives of Songtsen Gampo, the other being Nepali Princess Bhrikuti. Traditional Tibetan histories consider both princesses as physical manifestations of the bodhisattva Tara, and Songtsen Gampo as a physical manifestation of Avalokitesvara.[2]
Princess Wencheng brought the Jowo Shakyamuni statue to Tibet.
