Basic masochistic approach to life, self-denial to the extreme. The martyr denies themselves areas of the chakras, not because they are unable to access these things (physical, mental, and emotional), but because they will not allow themselves to experience these things. Usually this state arises due to holding onto childhood and adolescent conditioning. The personality is still stuck with the chastisements of youth and has frozen at this point due to the paralysis of fear, guilt, and shame.
Personalities that are just expressions of the negative side of the chakras can really mess up our lives and the lives of all those around us.
A list of the negative side of each chakra.
Chakra 1: Fear. Poverty. Physical sickness.
Chakra 2: Guilt. Denial. Repression.
Chakra 3: Shame. Aggression. Anger. Xenophobia (fear of others). Jealousy.
Chakra 4: Hatred. Violence. Pathological disorders.
Chakra 5: Inability to communicate effectively, to discuss, to negotiate, to talk about your life, your ideas, your problems, your experiences. To share and join in. The masked self.
Chakra 6: Mental disorder. Confusion. Negative thinking.
Chakra 7: Lack of peace. Lack of Spiritual interest, knowledge or wisdom.
So, the martyr is caught in a very small and often miserable repertoire of experiences. The problem with the martyr is that sooner or later they will become "the blamer". You can't hold onto self denial without eventually blaming some outer source for your suffering.
Again it really is a matter of being aware, of being conscious, to the way we habitually live our lives. We can be a martyr, or any other "personality type", without realising it. It is then worth considering criticism from those whom we can trust and whom we know love us, or at least have our best interests at heart.
