Sculpteur majeur de l'époque art nouveau, F.-R. Carabin a également été un enseignant apprécié en particulier à Strasbourg. Ses oeuvres, faisant une large place au corps féminin, sont conservées dans plusieurs grands musées français : au MAMC de Strasbourg (qui vient de recevoir la donation de son fonds d'atelier) mais aussi au musée d'Orsay, au musée des arts décoratifs, au musée du Petit Palais à Paris, au musée de l'École de Nancy (voir album monographique de dalbera). L'artiste fait actuellement l'objet d'une exposition au MAMCS.
