āsravakṣaya (P. āsavakkhaya; T. zag pa zad pa ཟག་པ་ཟད་པ་; C. loujin[zhi] 漏盡[智]) is translated as "exhaustion of the defilements,"[1] "extinction of contaminants,"[2] etc. It refers to the elimination of āsrava (contaminants, taints, etc.)

Āsravakṣaya is identified as:[3]

  • a supramundane supranormal power (abhijñā) produced through the perfection of insight (vipassana)
  • one of the "three knowledges" (trividyā) attained by the Buddha at the time of his enlightenment

One who attains this power is an arhat who is beyond rebirth; at death, the arhat will pass into nirvana.[3]

The Buddhist Dictionary states:

“Through the extinction of all cankers (āsavakkhaya) even in this very life he enters into the possession of deliverance of mind, deliverance through wisdom, after having himself understood and realised it.”[4]
