84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha, is a non-profit organization focused on translating Buddhist texts into modern languages. The group's current focus is on translating the Tibetan Kangyur and Tengyur from classical Tibetan into modern English.
Mission statement:
- 84000’s mission is to translate all of the Buddha’s words into modern languages, and provide open and free access to over 230,000 pages. In so doing, we are creating an essential new resource for primary-source scholarship, independent study, and personal practice.[1]
The organization's name comes from the 84,000 methods Buddha is said to have taught as a way to attain true peace and freedom from suffering.
