The Blue Udder (T. Be’u bum sngon po) is a Kadampa text on the stages of the path as taught by Potowa.[1] The text is attributed to Dölpa Sherab Gyatso (a.k.a. Dol pa dMar zhur pa; 1059–1131).[2][3]

Sweet and Zwilling (2001) state:

An udder, literally “calf’s flask” (be’u bum) is a metonym for a book, for like an udder, a book gives nourishment. Geshe Dol pa, the author of The Blue Udder root text was a disciple of Po to ba (1031–1105), one of the principal disciples of ’Brom. ’Chad kha ba had also been at one time a pupil of Dol pa; see The Blue Annals, tr. by George Roerich (Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass, 1976): Vol. 1, 273.[4]
