Brahmacharya (P. brahmacariya; T. tshangs spyod; C. fanxing; J. bongyō; K. pŏmhaeng 梵行). Within Buddhism, the term generally refers to a spiritual life that includes renunciation of sex and marriage. The term is also applied to monks and ascetics who follow this way of life.[1]
The term was adopted from the Vedic Brahmanical tradition, where it refers to unmarried students of the vedas.[1]
