devāvatāra. (T. lha yul nas babs pa; C. tianxialai/Tianxiachu 天下來/天下處). Literally, “descent from the deva realm.” This term refers to the Buddha’s return to the human realm after he taught the abhidharma to his mother in the "realm of the thirty-three" (Trāyastriṃśa).[1][2]
Devāvatāra is also an alternate name for the city of Sāṃkāśya, which is the site where the Buddha descended to upon his return to the human realm.[3]
