EOB:Project Biographies
Project Biographies is for discussing issues related to article biographies
Biography and/or author pages
- There are many types of templates for bios. Need to choose one and tailor it to our purposes.
- Sample pages:
- Many of the "wanted pages" are for persons. Figure out how to address this.
For the last one, I think we already did, more or less coming towards a consensus anyway? To go through import any non controversial ones "as is". If they died long ago no problem, and if they are controversial reduce to a minimal biography. Suggestion for what to include in minimal biography here:

I've done a few now, BTW tip for creating a copy of wikipedia here from wanted list, I click through to "create" and then make the body just
{{En-WP-Attrib}}
Then save and it gives a link to the wikipedia copy and I can then edit that and copy the text back - quick way to do it.
Minimal bios done so far
I've just had a go at a minimal bio here:
It was easy to do, trim down to the lede + the list of publications. That seems a reasonable approach for any article with a reasonably extensive lede.
In that case it will be obvious to the reader that it is trimmed down to a minimal bio, but they would also understand the reasons if we make it easy to link to our policy on bios. In cases of less known controversial figures there'd be no way to know if it was trimmed down or just a minimal bio from the get go. Robert Walker (talk) 21:03, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Same also for
Just the lede, I added date of death + his next incarnation. Removed everything else except the bibliography. We can always add more in later on, I think shorter is easiest. I left the sentence " Some of his teaching methods and actions were the topic of controversy during his lifetime and afterwards." in the lede, reasonably neutral and accurate "as is" and not likely to have readers upset by seeing that which seems the main criterion to use. This was a tricky one as the lede is rather short. I ended up keeping some of the sections of the body of the article. But left about half of it out, so it still seems reasonably minimal enough for the reader not to expect it to go into details. Though it is some time back, I think still likely to be current issues with some people how he is presented.
Is it okay, should it be trimmed more, or more of the original material included? Robert Walker (talk) 02:45, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
Complete bios
I saw nothing controversial so just imported the entire article "as is"
Links to Karmapa controversy but has nothing on it itself except one sentence statement
Past bios added from most wanted
- Je Tsongkhapa
- Patrul Rinpoche
- Longchenpa
- Sakya Pandita
- Jamgon Ju Mipham Gyatso
- Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen
- Avalokiteśvara
- Milarepa - this bio was rather minimal and given the importance of it in Tibetan Buddhism, I expanded it based on the translator's note by Andrew Quintman.
How does that seem as a way to do it? If so we can just gradually work down from the most wanted downwards and import them like that just a few minutes for each one. Robert Walker (talk) 21:17, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
