Joanna Jurewicz is a faculty member at University of Warsaw, Faculty of Oriental Studies. She is a Vedic scholar.
She has proposed a theory that the content and order of the Twelve links of dependent origination were determined by the Buddha's referencing of Vedic cosmology.
- "Without denying the mainstream interpretation, she has shown that the links are in the order that they are and are the specific links that they are, because again, the Buddha was taking off from Vedic cosmology."[1]
- "Recent work by Vedic scholar Joanna Jurewicz, however, suggests that originally the twelve nidānas were a parody of Vedic cosmogony. This scholarship opens the way for renewed exegesis of paṭiccasamuppāda liberated from Indian Buddhist metaphysics."[2]
