K. L. Dhammajoti

K.L. Dhammajoti (born 29 May 1949) is a founder and director of The Buddhist Dharma Center of Hong Kong.[1] He is also the founding editor of an annual academic journal "Journal of Buddhist Studies" from the Centre for Buddhist Studies, Sri Lanka.

He is one of the leading scholars on the Sarvastivada Abhidharma. His works include "Sarvastivada Abhidharma", "The Chinese Version of the Dhammapada", "Entrance into the Supreme Doctrine", and "Abhidhamma Doctrines and controversies on Perception".

He is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and he is an ordained Buddhist monk within the Theravada tradition.

As as a young boy, his initial contact with Buddhism was with the Chinese Mahayana tradition. He has said, "I have two traditions in my background. And I was equally inspired by both Mahayana and Theravada."[2]

  • Retired Glorious Sun (Endowed) Professorship in Buddhist Studies, The University of Hong Kong.
  • Honorary Rector, International Buddhist College, Hatyai, Thailand.[3]
  • Adjunct Professor, University of Pune, India.
  • Visiting Professor, Fo Guang University, Taiwan.
  • Editor, Journal of Buddhist Studies. Published by the Centre for Buddhist Studies, Sri Lanka.
