Mahāpadesasutta

Mahāpadesasutta - a sutta of the Pali canon that sets forth a set of criteria known as the "four great references" (mahāpadesa) that are used to determine of a text is the "word of the Buddha" (Buddhavacana).

This sutta is included in the Pali canon both as an independent text and as a section of the Mahaparinibbana Sutta.[1]
