Phowa (T. 'pho ba འཕོ་བ་) is a tantric Buddhist practice for directing the transference of consciousness at the time of death, either for oneself or another.[1] In this practice, the consciousness is ejected from an aperture in the top of the head and typcially directed into a pure realm such as Sukhavati.[2]
The practice is found within all sects of Tibetan Buddhism. It is particularly known as one of the the Six Yogas of Naropa.
