Six basic texts of the Kadampa school

Six basic texts of the Kadampa school (T. bka' gdams gzhung drug བཀའ་གདམས་གཞུང་དྲུག་). Treatises which formed the fundamental basis of practice of the past Kadampa masters.

These are:

• Life Stories of Buddha (Jataka) and Inspired Utterances (Udanavarga) for inspiring faith and devotion;
• Bodhisattva Grounds (Bodhisattvabhumi) and Ornament of Mahayana Sutras (Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra) for producing meditative concentration; and
• Guide to Bodhisattva's Way of Life (Bodhisattvacaryavatara) and Compendium of Precepts (Shikshasamucchaya) for developing wholesome behavior.
