Thangka of Vimalamitra
Vimalamitra (Skt.; Tib. དྲི་མེད་བཤེས་གཉེན་, Wyl. dri med bshes gnyen) was an Indian Buddhist master known for transmitting a lineage of Dzogchen teachings to Tibet. He is particularly revered within the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. His lineage of Dzogchen teachings became known as the Vima Nyingtik.
According to tradition, Vimalamitra's teachers were Buddhaguhya, Jñānasūtra and Śrī Siṃha.[1]
He went to Tibet in the ninth century, where he taught extensively for a period of thirteen years. During this time he composed and translated numerous Sanskrit texts.
According to tradition, when Vimalamitra left Tibet, he promed to return to Tibet every hundred years as an emanation to further the Clear Light teaching of Dzogpachenpo.[2]
