Aṣṭagrantha (C. Bajiandu lun), or "Eight Compositions," is an alternate name for the Jñānaprasthāna that is used in an early Chinese translation of this text.[1] The title reflects the eight sections into which the text is divided.[1]
Charles Willemen states:
- The Aṣṭagrantha was revised and renamed Jñānaprasthāna (Course of Knowledge) at the end of the second century C.E.[2]
