The Dhamekha Stupa which marks the place where the Buddha gave his first teaching
Deer Park (Skt. mṛgadāya; P. migadāya; T. ri dwags kyi gnas རི་དྭགས་ཀྱི་གནས་; C. luyeyuan) is the site in Sarnath where the Buddha gave his first teaching. This teaching is recorded in The Discourse That Sets Turning the Wheel of Truth (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta).
This site is also referred to as ṛṣipatana (P. isipatana), meaning either "place where holy men descend" or "place where holy men gather."[1]
