Sarnath

Sarnath is a place located 10 kilometres north-east of Varanasi near the confluence of the Ganges and the Varuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh, India. The Deer Park in Sarnath is where Buddha Shakyamuni gave his first teaching, which is recorded in The Discourse That Sets Turning the Wheel of Truth (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta).

Sarnath is one of the four main pilgrimage sites for Buddhist pilgrims.
