Kosambī (Skt. Kauśambī) was a city in northern India where Gautama Buddha taught and where several monasteries were built. It was the capital of the Vatsa kingdom.
Kosambī is mentioned in many suttas, such as the Discourse to the People of Kosambī (Kosambīyasutta) in which the Buddha told a gathering of monks to make loving-kindness (metta) the basis of their mutual relations.[1] In the Discourse to Jāliya (Jāliyasutta) given at the Ghositārāma monastery in Kosambī, the Buddha taught the medicant Jāliya the virtues of leading the life of a mendicant.[2]
