Mahāvīra (T. dpa' bo chen po; C. Daxiong 大雄). Literally, “Great Victor”; the title of Nirgrantha-Jñātīputra, a leader of the Jainas.[1]
- Mahāvira seems to have been an elder contemporary of the Buddha. [...] He is one of the so-called six sectarian teachers criticized by the Buddha for their wrong views in such texts as the Sāmaññaphalasutta.[1]
