Fiery World – Signs of Agni Yoga – is a visionary trilogy written by Helena and Nicholas Roerich and published by their Agni Yoga Foundation. The trilogy was written in the years 1933 -1935 and it should have been given directly by Master Morya, the guru of H. P. Blavatsky, a founder of the Theosophical Society. Unlike previous yogas, Agni Yoga is a path not of physical disciplines, meditation, or asceticism—but of practice in daily life. In this regard Agni Yoga bears similarities with the Fourth Way, which also aims at combining teachings from the East and the West in a daily life practice. As I have written elsewhere, there might have been a connection between H. P. Blavatsky and G. I. Gurdjieff.

What is the Agni Yoga Foundation?
The Agni Yoga Foundation, also known as Agni Yoga Society, is a spiritual movement and philosophical teaching that revolves around the concept of Agni Yoga, often referred to as the “Yoga of Fire” or “Living Ethics.” This teaching emphasizes the synthesis of all yogas (karma, bhakti, jnana, raja, etc.) and focuses on the direct and conscious cooperation with the higher, spiritual realms.
Agni Yoga was introduced in the early 20th century by Helena Roerich and her husband Nicholas Roerich, who were Russian theosophists and spiritual seekers. They claimed to have received the teachings from a spiritual master known as Master Morya, part of the same group of Mahatmas or Masters that were central to the teachings of Theosophy as presented by Helena Blavatsky.
The core teachings of Agni Yoga include:
- Living Ethics: Emphasizing the importance of ethical living and spiritual development in everyday life.
- Integration of Spirituality and Daily Life: Encouraging followers to integrate spiritual practices and principles into their day-to-day existence.
- Cosmic Evolution: The belief in a dynamic, evolving cosmos, where human consciousness plays an integral role.
- Higher Consciousness: The development of higher forms of consciousness through spiritual practices.
- Service to Humanity: A strong emphasis on altruism and serving the greater good.
The Agni Yoga Society, founded to disseminate these teachings, offers a variety of texts and resources for study. It operates more as a loose network of followers rather than a formal organization with strict doctrines or a hierarchical structure. The Society’s activities often include meditation, study groups, and dissemination of the writings related to Agni Yoga.
