In Philosophical Realism, the view is that the physical world exists independently of the observer. Objects have properties regardless of someone labeling, perceiving or naming them. In this book, Syed Zafarul Hasan takes on the task to outline the history of realism from the earliest philosophers to the Age of Reason while dealing with the major problems himself. Syed Zafarul Hasan was the first Muslim Scholar of the Indian sub-continent to secure a Ph.d. from Oxford in Philosophy.

Realism
What does Realism mean in philosophy?
In philosophy, realism is a worldview that asserts that the external world exists independently of our perception or understanding of it. Realists believe that the objects, properties, and events of the world have a mind-independent existence, that is, they would exist even if no one were aware of them. Realism can be divided into several different types, depending on the specific claims made about the nature of the external world. Metaphysical realism, for example, asserts that there is a single, objective reality that exists independently of our perceptions of it, while epistemological realism holds that we can know this objective reality through our senses and reasoning.
Aristotle and Plato are considered as some of the earliest realist in philosophy, But realism can also be found in various forms in different historical periods like in the medieval era, in the scholastic realism, and in the modern era, scientific realism, and critical realism. In the broad sense, realism can be described as the view that the world as we experience it corresponds more or less with the way it actually is, regardless of whether we are aware of it or not.
