Discussion of templates

Like the new templates :). BTW most of our articles probably could be marked as {{Clone}} I wonder if we should just go through marking them all as clones if not yet worked on / checked by us and then future editors can remove the clone stamps as they work on them... Transferring pages and templates etc from Wikipedia

To export / import pages use:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Export
set to Include templates
http://encyclopediaofbuddhism.org/index.php?title=Special:Import

After exporting you can edit the xml file to do a search / replace to add the templates {{En-WP-Attrib}} at the end of each article and {{En-WP-TP-Attrib}} after the first <noinclude> in each template.

Editing the xml file before import, doing multiple pages in one go, is much faster than editing the pages after import and adding the templates one at a time.

(I didn't do the attributions for the templates for bulk import to date because I hadn't made that template and didn't think of attributing them - not a big deal, don't think anyone will care that much about attributing them but strictly speaking we should).

Exported and imported all the templates in
http://encyclopediaofbuddhism.org/index.php?title=Special:WantedTemplates
- note that some of them are deleted in Wikipedia so it still shows as having some wanted there - and the more complete list of wanted pages also has more templates that are used by other templates and have been deleted or never existed in wikipedia

Also did the same for the ones in
http://encyclopediaofbuddhism.org/index.php?title=Special:BrokenRedirects&limit=500&offset=0

Recent 504 time out issues

That worked fine until a month or so ago. However recently I've had issues with the export / import process - I get frequent time outs and the exported files fail to import into the encyclopedia.

As a result I have only been able to import templates a few at a time. I don't know if this is an issue with my computer or something changed in the configuration at the server end.

I also quite often get 504 gateweay timeout while editing the encyclopedia. Just occasionally, after submitting the save changes button, get that message and have to try again. May be related?? Robert Walker (talk) 18:59, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

I fixed a similar issu earlier by changing the php settings.

I created a php.ini file following siteground advice here https://www.siteground.com/kb/how_to_change_the_value_of_a_php_setting/ and Wikimedia advice here https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Import 2000 seconds is over half an hour. To reset to default settings for php just delete this file.

Maximum size of POST data that PHP will accept.

post_max_size = 20M

max_execution_time = 2000  ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds max_input_time = 2000  ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data

Default timeout for socket based streams (seconds)

default_socket_timeout = 2000

But this php file is still there in the root folder for the encyclopedia and the time out messages returned so I'm not sure what to do now.

@Dorje108: do you have this issue? Robert Walker (talk) 18:56, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Robertinventor:, I have been getting timed-out also. I see this mostly when I try to edit a page that has many reference citations (and/or other template calls). Generally it seems that if the page has about 100 or more reference citations, I might get timed out when I try to submit a change. In these cases, the change generally goes through, but my response is timed out.
I haven't tried to import a template in a while, but I did see this issue last time I tried an import. So I basically stopped trying to import.
So I am sure the issue is how the site is configured on SiteGround, but not sure yet how to address the issue. - Dorje108 (talk) 01:50, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
