Śrotravijñāna

Śrotravijñāna (P. sotaviññāṇa; T. rna ba'i rnam par shes pa རྣ་བའི་རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་; C. ershi 耳識) is translated at "ear consciousness," auditory consciousness, etc.

The ear consciousness arises through contact (sparsa) between sounds and the ear faculty.

The ear consciousness perceives/congnizes sounds.

The ear consciousness (śrotravijñāna) is identified as:

• one of the five types of consciousness that percieves the five sense objects
• one of the six types of consciousness
• one of the eighteen dhatus
